Flying Torpedoes Help P-8A Poseidon Attack Enemy Submarines

Image
14 Januari 2019 High Altitude Anti-Submarine Warfare Weapon Capability (HAAWC) with Air Launch Accessory (ALA) (image : Boeing) WASHINGTON – Airborne weapons experts at the Boeing Co. are building add-on kits to create flying torpedoes that can attack submerged enemy submarines from long ranges and from high altitudes. The Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington announced a $9.3 million order Wednesday to the Boeing Co. Defense, Space & Security segment in St. Louis to design and build the High Altitude Anti-Submarine Warfare Weapon Capability (HAAWC) Air Launch Accessory (ALA). The HAAWC ALA enables the Raytheon MK 54 lightweight torpedo carried aboard the Navy Boeing P-8A Poseidon long-range maritime patrol jet to glide through the air from altitudes as high as 30,000 feet, essentially transforming the torpedo into a glide weapon that the P-8A aircraft can release from high altitudes. As the flying torpedo nears the water, it jettisons its wings and tail and takes on its original...

04 Januari 2019 Project image of turboprop aircraft amphibian CL-515, developed by Canadian company Viking Air (image : Viking Air) The Canadian aircraft manufacturer Viking Air Ltd (British Columbia Province) distributed the first images of the CL-515 two-engine turboprop amphibious aircraft, which is a further development of the design of the well-known amphibious aircraft Canadair (Bombardier) CL-215 and CL-415. In 2016, Viking Air acquired a program for the production of amphibious aircraft (turboprop CL-415 and previously produced piston CL-215 and its turboprop remotorized version CL-215T), including their type certificates and after-sales service, from the Canadian company Bombardier. The CL-215 and CL-415 aircraft are mainly used as firefighters, and as such, the main application of the CL-515 is also planned. Viking Air announced its intention to resume production of amphibious aircraft CL-415 in an updated form, which was now the CL-515 aircraft. Apparently, the distribution ...

Beaches are routinely used by the RAF for training operations with other tactical airlifters.  The A400M showcased its superb tactical capabilities on natural surfaces by performing take-off, landing and taxiing manoeuvres. Flight Lieutenant Cheng, 206 Squadron Pilot said : “The advanced flight deck of the A400M and cutting-edge fly by wire controls made this task easier to fly than other platforms. We are now looking forward to the challenge of conducting this operation using night vision goggles later in the trial.” The versatility of the A400M Atlas means it has the capability to land on a wide variety of surfaces including natural surfaces carrying a very large payload. This tactical capability was demonstrate...
